Life of a student is hard but life of a Public Relation Student is even harder trust me I know, been there still there and how I wish I would say all of this in a past tense form but luckily I still have a year to go. Well I'm am here and I am going to enjoy this as much as possible. To be honest I am one of those students who never chose public relation as their first choice of study, I actually wanted to do Graphic Design and it was not even my second choice either, my second choice was Interior design, yes I know strange for a guy. Don't laugh yeah, public relations came after Interior Design, hence I ended up doing extended, but for some odd reason I have fallen in love with public relations, make that madly in love with it, I can consider public relations my first love, OK now that's a bit too much.

This can easily be one of the best career paths one could take, I mean it is one of the few courses that evolve with the introduction of new technology(new media). You could actually have a dream job by just having a public relations qualification, work flexible hours or even work from home with the new tools for carrying out public relations which have been introduced by new media.
Hell you can even be in Fashion just by having a public
relations qualification, how cool is that anyway where was I before I got
carried away, oh! yes me choosing public relations as my last option, most
learners don't even know that there is such a course as public relations
until they matriculate and find themselves looking at a their results and a
prospectus. Then the is the I don't know which career path to take after
studying, as most of these students think public relations is all about event
planning and stuff like that but it is more than that, public relations is
growing in stature as more and more companies realise the value it adds to the
company and the importance of stakeholder relations. Enough about that I'd love to know if there are any of you who chose public relations as their first choice of study and what inspired it or you where just like me.... stumbled on a gold mine and ended up being a PR head.
Good blog my guy, goes to show that everything happens for a reason. Lets enjoy our lives as students, put in the necessary work and leave with as much knowledge as we can. #ContinueTheJourney
ReplyDeleteso speaking from your experiance would you actually advice a student doing matric currently to take any other course that is available which they never even thought of doing?
DeleteI couldnt have said it any better, so why did you choose PR? #shareyourjourney
DeleteYes i would, people have to understand that there is more to PR than what meets the eye and if people would realise the worth of PR they would jump at the opportunity of studying it

ReplyDeleteI always had a feeling that I was not the only one who did not get into PR by choice, but though I have to mention that once you go PR, you can never go back. My first choice of Study was Medicine, but I now have my eyes fixed on PR; and once I start something I always stick with it to the end. The feeling is mutual, Mr Thusile.
